What if I need my medication urgently?

If you have run out of medication and have been told that you should not stop your medication without consulting a doctor, a prescription can be issued urgently, however this will depend on a doctor being available to sign the prescription, therefore please be patient with our staff as you will have to wait. You may have to attend the surgery in person in this situation and provide a written request of the items you need and mark the request as urgent. If the surgery is closed your usual pharmacy may be able to dispense a small Emergency Supply of your medication until you are able to see your doctor. (They may make a charge for this service).

    Electronic Prescription Management Service (EPMS)

We have a system whereby your prescription can be designated to a local pharmacy. They will collect the signed prescription from the surgery and have your medication ready to collect at the Pharmacy.

    Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications and notifications should appear on your repeat slip or you may be called. Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

    Generic Prescribing

It is practice policy to prescribe generically – a generic drug is a drug based on a branded product but made by a different manufacturer. When you join the practice your medication may be changed to comply with this policy and we would be happy to discuss this at your first review.

Changes to the medication we prescribe as a practice is an ongoing process and done in terms of the effectiveness and cost and in the interest of good medicine and responsible prescribing. We will endeavour to keep our patients informed of the latest changes via this website and by mail, where feasible.

Please allow two full working days for prescriptions to be processed and please plan ahead – if you are nearing the end of your medication, a long public holiday is imminent or you are going away on holiday, please give us plenty of time to process your prescription.

    Please Note

All prescriptions MUST be signed, dated and specify how many items you are requesting.

We will NOT be able to process your prescription request without this information.
